Mtn Pics

main_DSC7754September_06__2009

We just got back from a family weekend in the mtns.

My sister came out all the way from back east to join us. My little nephew is so sweet, and such a great baby. I love him to pieces!

Sometimes we forget the beauty of the things we take for granted, like being only an hour and a 1/2 from a place like this.

I love it up there. So do my kids, they didn’t want to come home and I don’t blame them.

I promised them we would go back again soon.

Feeding the chick-a-monks as Beauty calls them was definitely a “gotta do it again” experience.

We tried to get them to venture down the trail for a longer hike but they were obsessed the the chick-a-monk stop.

They also had a really great lake side park, so fun they could have stayed for hours.

I love the mtns!

Mommy and Son Date

We had a date, just my son and I.

His choice….the skate-park with a trip to Lamar’s Doughnuts afterward.

I went to grab my camera and he asked me to leave it ,  he wanted my full and undivided attention.

I was happy to comply with his wishes. I did get to actually watch him scooter around instead of being preoccupied with capturing it on  camera.  It was great to live the experience rather than being concentrated on documenting it.

My favorite moment on our date…….A quite talk in the car on the way home where he said ” You know what Mom? I really, really love you.”

Does that melt your heart or what?

I will try and think of that moment the next time he slugs his sister or blows me off when I ask him clean up.

After we got home he agreed to one pic, but it had to be quick.

Fickle Sibling Love

This time it was lots of love.

First Day of First Grade

connor_1st_grademain

Today is my big guy’s first day of first grade.

I know I was more nervous than he was.  I woke up at like 5:30am and couldn’t go back to sleep.

I just have all the mommy jitters…..

will he know where to line up when he gets off the bus?

will he find his friends in other classes to sit with at lunch?

will his teacher see his sensitive and loving spirit through his all boy/playful exterior?

will he remember which bus to get back on?

He on the other hand woke up at a leisurely 7am and cool as a cucumber and ready  for whatever happened next.

Summer Hawk

Indy had been asking me for a mohawk.  I agreed to do it for the summer.  He has had fun with all the added attention, promising to go back to a more clean cut look  for the school year.

I actually kind of like it…don’t tell him though.  I’m pretty sure he thinks it’s cool because it’s rebellious.

Hair is hair it grows back.

I love his snaggle tooth grin, it adds to the look don’t you think!  Soon enough his mouth will be full of grown up teeth and he will begin the awkward transformation we all go through till we start to resemble our adult selves.  I say celebrate this milestone with pictures.

Beautiful Weather

One of Indy’s favorite things to do is go to the skate-park.  They built one a few miles from our home and he and his friends make plans to go there after school all the time.

I don’t really mind as long as the weather is nice and this time it was awesome.

I took along my camera.  The sun was bright as it was midday, but I didn’t want to embarrass him too much by breaking out my reflector to bounce more light into the shadows.  These are skate-park pics after all.  Maybe I’ll try get him to go in the early morning sometime when the light is better and most skateboarders are still sleeping!

Bionicle

Indy spent most of the evening making this portrait of himself wearing a Bionicle mask (for those not in the know, a Bionicle is a robot type guy created by Legos)

The first picture is of the front of him and the second picture……. is on the back of his self portrait and shows the back of his head in the mask ofcourse!

I told him it was very detailed and that he is a very good artist.

Library Card

library card

Today my son got his first library card.  He is in kindergarten and told me his favorite thing to do at school is to go to the library.

We have been to our community library many times lately.  I have been checking him out some books on my card , but I thought since he was so very into the library I would let him get a card with his name on it.   It was a hit. He promptly checked out 5 books and a movie.
