Christmas 2009 Scrapbook

I know it is a week after Christmas and most of us are ready to move on, but I am just catching up.

I am trying something new.

I have made a digital scrapbook of some of our Christmas adventures.

I didn’t take nearly enough pictures, we were so busy. Snap shots were all I seemed to manage…

We promise not to say that every time my sister visits!

Our Trip Down South

This is a photo of four generations of women in my family.

We were luck enough to get to spend Thanksgiving with my Grandparents and share my kids with them.  They live in a beautifully wooded part of southern Georgia.  The trees were amazing!

We had Turducken (a chicken inside a duck inside of a turkey) for Turkey-day and lots of other wonderful food GG Mae cooked up.  My grandparents looked wonderful and I realized just how much I had missed them.

The kids had fun running and driving around their woods and getting to know their great grandparents..not something all kids get a chance to do.   I miss them already.

After our visit with them we drove…yes drove…thank-goodness for portable DVD…down to Florida to stay with my mom.

We all had such a nice time there.  It was nice to get away and watch the kids on the beach.

It was so fun watching my mother with the kids and getting to share their unique personalities with her.  Man are they wonderfully “spirited”.  My mother has such a great way of helping me see some of the things that make me crazy as their mother differently.  I love seeing my kids through her eyes.

How lucky we are to have days like these….Thanks MOM!

Halloween-a three day event

Halloween_2009-9724

Halloween has been a three day event this year.

We started Friday with a snow-day (classroom parties were canceled and the kids were really bummed)

Thank goodness our gym was having a trick or treat street indoors….My son was snake eyes/ninja and my little Beauty decided that morning to ditch the unicorn idea and be a butterfly.

We came home, played in the snow and my son built his very first snowman on his own.

That night we went to a kids Halloween party held at the karate studio.

Saturday we went to another trick or treat street this time outdoors and with 65 degree weather, we celebrated with 5,000 other little goblins– after 3 snow days off of school and being stuck inside -you can imagine the energy this group had stored up.

Halloween night we went to a neighbors house for a quick party then out trick or treating around the hood with friends.  So glad I brought a wagon, Beauty lightened her load a few times by dumping them into the wagon and then about 2/3 of the way trough our route she decided she had enough.  She hopped in the wagon and munched on her favorites as the boys trick or treated some more.  I had a glass of wine in hand so I didn’t mind pulling her home all that much.

This time Beauty was dressed as Ariel from the little Mermaid (a choice she made as we were on our way out the door)  and my son stuck with his ninja choice!

We had great fun and the kids have a ridiculous amount of candy….

When we got home we did the tradition dump and sort on the family room floor so they could get a good look at all their loot.

I had the kids choose a small portion of their favorites to keep and we will be participating in a local candy buy back this year.

Operation Gratitude (a group that rounds up treats/goodies to send to the troops in Iraq)  takes the candy and gives the kids 1$ back for every pound they donate.

I feel much better about the candy going somewhere else besides the trash where I usually end up donating.

All said and done, I am exhasted and looking forward to the rest of the Holiday season which has offically begun in my book :)

Snow Day

main_snow_day_2009

The kids have been off for 2 snow days this week.

They are literally climbing the walls , so today we braved the cold to do some sledding.

I was there…I know there is no evidence ;) I am always behind the camera instead of in front of it.

I did sled down with the kids, no one caught it on film but I did it.

I used to be a pro. My dad would take us a few times a year.

I must be getting old though cause I don’t remember it being so fast!

Thank goodness we had the foresight in the spring a couple of years ago to by 3 big tubes when they were only $4 on clearance!

The kids shrieked with joy as my hubby dug them out like a forgotten buried treasure . All we had to do was blow them up and strap them to the top of the car.

SO FUN!

New Tooth

My little nephew is one of the best behaved babies ever.  I swear my kids were never that good.

He was even cutting his first tooth and only truly had one major melt down on the last night.

I love that I got to witness a first for him, I wish they would just move back here!

Mtn Pics

We just got back from a family weekend in the mtns.

My sister came out all the way from back east to join us. My little nephew is so sweet, and such a great baby. I love him to pieces!

Sometimes we forget the beauty of the things we take for granted, like being only an hour and a 1/2 from a place like this.

I love it up there. So do my kids, they didn’t want to come home and I don’t blame them.

I promised them we would go back again soon.

Feeding the chick-a-monks as Beauty calls them was definitely a “gotta do it again” experience.

We tried to get them to venture down the trail for a longer hike but they were obsessed the the chick-a-monk stop.

They also had a really great lake side park, so fun they could have stayed for hours.

I love the mtns!

Camping

We took the kid’s on their first ever camping trip this past weekend. It was a lot of fun, great….. friends, food, and time shared.  We went with 6 other families from our hood.  There were 15 kids in all, they traveled like a pack from campsite to campsite giggling and causing trouble.

We had a fantastic time and we are still doing laundry trying to get the campfire smell out of all our belongs!

Pool Days

My son, like his father, is fearless on the diving board.  He hurls himself into the air and the bigger the splash the better.

This is the same pool where my sister, my brother and I spent HOURS of our summer.  It’s fun to see it come full circle and sit in the same shade with my kids that I once sat in with my own mother.
